Hi everyone! I’m not sure when this post will go up, but I have gotten so many questions recently about what I eat in a day, what I do to workout and tips for staying healthy & active, so I decided to write this post! I am by no means a health guru or nutritionist, but I have a true passion for eating healthy, natural foods and excersising, so I’ve learned some tips and tricks along the way!
I’ve always had a very active lifestyle and healthy diet – I was a competitive swimmer for 6 years and I was swimming up to 20 hours per week, plus doing dryland and other exercising. I made the decision to stop swimming last year because I felt so burnt out and I was getting awful ear infections – I had to have surgery 2 years ago for that. I haven’t swam competitively in about a year, so I’ve had to find some other way to stay active and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Swimming is a great form of cardio, and during my years as a swimmer I was in the best shape of my life. After stopping swim team, I started playing golf on my school’s team – golf isn’t something that I would consider excersise, so I had to find something else that would make me “sweat” or “feel the burn”.
Flash forward to March of 2020, when the quarantine rules were set. Oh 2020, what a year you have been. Before Covid hit, I had been working out at my country club’s gym about 3 nights a week, and since we figured we wouldn’t be able to go back anytime soon, my family decided to convert an extra room in our house into a gym. We are still working on adding more equipment and fixing it up, but so far we have added an Assault Fitness air bike, a rowing machine, a squat rack with a 45lb bar, some basic free weights, dumbbells and other equipment. It’s taken a few months, but through trial and error I have finally found what excersise, equipment and types of physical activity work best for me and provide me with the results I am looking for. I wake up at around 7am and workout. Below, I am sharing my exact fitness routine (with all equipment & videos linked) : enjoy!
* I never really eat before working out, I usually just drink water. If you usually eat before working out or like eating in the mornings, do what is best for you!
Monday: warmup by riding 1 mile on my Assault fitness bike, and then do a beginner Pilates thigh workout.
Tuesday: weight lifting circuit:
– I stretch on a yoga mat for a few minutes to loosen up
– 10 squats with a 45 lb. bar on my shoulders
– 10 “T” lifts – 5 on each leg. (Start by touching your toes, and put one leg directly up in the air behind you – you should look like half of a letter “T”. Holding a kettlebell in your hands, (I use 17 lb. for this) use your core to lift yourself up until you are standing up straight)
– 1 minute of sumo squats (your legs should be very far apart) with a 12 lb. kettlebell
– 30 seconds of FAST jump roping
Wednesday: I walk 1 mile and then come home and do an ab sculpting Pilates video.
3 mile bike ride ( I stand up for most of the ride because it works your lungs harder and I always feel so accomplished after!)
Friday: warmup by riding 1 mile on my Assault fitness bike, and then do a beginner Pilates thigh workout.
Saturday: my family usually goes on a walk together, and then I will do this workout video.
Sunday: I will choose a workout video to do – it differs every week! Sometimes, my friend Katelyn and I will meet up at walk our dogs – we live a minute drive away from each other!
If you’ve made it this far, good job! We’re just getting into the good stuff so get comfy & stay awhile!
